Elechi directs councils to pay severance benefits

ABAKALIKI—GOVERNOR Martin Elechi has directed the 13 Local Gvernment areas and the 64 development councils in the state to commence, without delay, payment of outstanding severance allowances to former political office holders in the 77 local councils of the state.

The decision was reached at the weekly meeting of the State Executive Council. According to the Governor’s Media Assistant, Mr Abia Onyike, the Governor had directed that the second installment of the severance allowance be paid before the end of the year.

Onyike said that the council noted the non-payment of the severance allowance to former office holders in Ekumenyi Development Centre and urged the council authorities to take steps to rectify the situation.

Onyike also disclosed that plans were on by the state government to embark on effective refuse evacuation within Abakaliki metropolis to improve on the environmental sanitation of the state capital.
