In a bid to celebrate the virtue of the Benue woman, the Office of Her Excellency, the First Lady of Benue State, Arch. Yemisi Dooshima Suswam, in collaboration with Legendary Gold Limited is set to hold the maiden edition of the Benue Fashion Week. The show which will also mark the 3rd edition of “Celebrate the Benue Woman” programme is scheduled for 18th November, 2009 at the IBB Square in Benue State.

According to Arch. Yemisi Suswam, the major aim and objective of Benue Fashion Week is to promote descent dressing fit for today’s modern woman. To this end, participating designers will be compelled to design clothes that are creative and not exposing.

The idea, she says, is to promote the Tiv cloth through the Benue Fashion Week, by making participating designers combine it with other fabrics in their collection. “This, no doubt, will give the Tiv cloth regional, national and international exposure as international fashion consultants from Milan, New York and Paris are expected at the show,” she noted.

The show is also aimed at discovering, training and empowering creative individuals from the state who are talented and want to pursue careers in fashion designing, hair styling, make up and modelling, while creating local, national and international exposure for these discovered talents.

Activities the Benue Fashion Week will run for three consecutive days (16th – 18th November).  The exhibition and workshop will culminate in a grand final event on 18th November, 2009.

The grand prize at the Benue Fashion Week is a brand new car for the best designer and a cash reward of N500,000 each for the best male and female model. There will be consolation prizes for other participants.

Apart from the prizes, the best designer will have the opportunity of representing Benue State at the Nigeria Fashion Show 2009 scheduled for the Muson Centre, Lagos on 26th November.
