Ijaw chiefs commend Yar’Adua, Jonathan over amnesty

THE Ijaw Council of Chiefs, led by the Pere of  Lagos (Izon Bulodaowei), has expressed optimism that the amnesty granted to militants in the creeks of Niger Delta will guarantee lasting peace.

The Pere, His Highness Alex Sikaboro and his council of chiefs, made the remark when they paid a courtesy call on the Coordinator, Ijaw Monitoring Group, Comrade Joseph Evah, to deliver an official letter to the Presidency through the IMG office.

In the letter addressed to the President, Vice President, Senate President and South-South governors, the chiefs lamented the collapse of moral values and sustainable development in the Niger Delta as a result of poverty and urged the president and the vice president to sustain the victory of the amnesty initiative by giving priority attention to employment and infrastructural development.

Responding, Comrade Evah promised to deliver their letters to the Presidency through the Vice President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. He also promised that the Niger Delta governors will receive their letters of encouragement.

According to Comrade Evah, “the response to the happenings at home (Niger Delta) shows your commitment to your fatherland.”
