Ambrose Alli University resumes Oct 25

By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN —Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, yesterday announced Sunday, October 25, 2009, as date for the continuation of the 2008/2009 academic session which was interrupted by the strike embarked upon by the various unions in the university.

This comes as five suspected kidnappers yesterday abducted the wife of the Bursar of the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Mrs. Agnes Akwuabu, at Iyereku Primary School, Etsako West local government area, where she works as the headmistress.

Deputy Registrar, Information/Public Relations Officer of the AAU, Dr. Chris Adamaigbo, said in a statement that the resumption date was approved by the senate of the institution at an emergency meeting held last Monday.

According to him, students of the institution are expected to be back on campus on Sunday, October 25, 2009, while lectures for all categories of students would resume on Monday, October 26, 2009.

On the abduction of  Mrs. Akwuabu, an eyewitness told Vanguard that “ that the woman was whisked away to an unknown destination by the gunmen in her own  vehicle.”

Though no ransom had been demanded from the family at the time of filling this report,  Vanguard gathered reliably that the state police command had deployed a crack team of detectives to ensure that she was released safely.
