OWERRI – Imo State is to benefit from the rural access and mobility project put together by the Federal Government.
The Coordinator, Rural Access and Mobility Project, Engr. Lambert Nwaezike, stated this when he paid a courtesy call on Governor Ikedi Ohakim at the Government House, Owerri.
“The projects, which will include development of rural roads, water and energy, was adopted by the Federal Government in 1994 to ensure sustainability of the people’s welfare, especially for the rural massesâ€, Nwaezike said.
He commended the Governor for deeming it fit to grade the rural roads, which are of economic benefit to the government and people of the state.
Responding, the Secretary to State Government (SSG), Chief Cosmas Iwu, who represented Governor Ohakim, said that to show how committed the government was, it had sunk about N2 billion into Imo Rural Road Maintenance Agency (IRROMA) project.
“About 300 roads have either been rehabilitated or reconstructed by IRROMA, making it possible for rural dwellers to easily communicate and evacuate their farm products. IRROMA has created employment opportunities for engineers, driversâ€, Iwu said.
