Nigerian Navy confab holds in Uyo

Abuja – The Nigerian Navy said yesterday that it would hold its 2009 Chief of Naval Staff Annual Conference in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State with experts from several African countries, including Navies of South Africa and Ghana invited to deliberate on how to rise up to the challenges posed by sea piracy and hijacking of ships in the maritime enclave of the gulf of Guinea.

Chief of Policy and Plans, Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral Sylvester Umosen who made the disclosure at a briefing in Abuja, noted that with the kick off of the annual event in 1987, the conference has continued to grow in leaps and bounds and has contributed immensely to capacity building in the Nigerian Navy.

Announcing that the theme of the conference ‘Enhancing Nigerian Navy Operations towards Realization of Vision 20:20:20’ was aimed at repositioning the Navy towards meeting Mr. President’s vision.
