Ndokwa group hails Urhobo on unity summit

The Ukwuani Foundation Union (UFU) has congratulated their neighbours and brothers, the Urhobos, on the success of their Unity Summit held in Effurun, Warri, last weekend.

In a statement, President of the Foundation, Ogbuefi Vanderpuye Abanum, said the relationship between their closest neighbours, Urhobo, had always been cordial and mutually beneficial,  especially when it is noted that in every 10 Urhobo or Ukwuani people in Delta State, one or two of their parents could have come from both ethnic groups.

He stated that inter-marriage between the two ethnic groups had been an age-long tradition, to the extent that greater percentage of people from both groups freely understand and speak both Ukwuani and Urhobo languages.

He commended the President of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Senator Felix Ibru, who incidentally is an in-law to the Ukwuani people, and urged him to use the outcome of the summit to create an enabling environment where all people of Delta State would have a sense of belonging.
