Fertilizer saga: Chime sacks agric commissioner

By Tony Edike

ENUGU—GOVERNOR Sullivan Chime of Enugu state yesterday, relieved the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Prof Hillary Edeoga of his appointment, following the controversy that trailed the distribution of fertilizers in the state.

The Governor handed the Commissioner the sack order after a meeting he held with officials of the Ministry and members of the State Board of Fertilizer Procurement and Distribution Company, where some alleged shady deals in the distribution of the Federal Government’s subsidized fertilizers were reportedly exposed.

Several petitions had trailed the distribution of the product, which had pitched the Commissioner against the Fertilizer Procurement Board, leading to the impoundment of several trucks of fertilizers allocated to some persons in the state.
