Benikurukuru urges JTF to unlock Delta waterways

By Emma Amaize
WARRI—A member of the Delta State Waterways Security Committee (DWSC), Chief Second Benikurukuru, yesterday called on the Federal Government to prevail on the Joint Task Force (JTF) to unlock barricaded waterways of the state to assuage the anguish of the people.

Chief Benikurukuru noted that the continuous blockade of the waterways by the JTF after the war in the creeks was taking its toll on the people on a daily basis and suggested the JTF should be called to order to allow free movement on the waterways.

He urged all and sundry to embrace the amnesty granted by the Federal Government in the quest to bring lasting solution to the Niger Delta crisis, imploring armed youths and the Movement for Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) to stop further bombardment of oil facilities around the Niger Delta area.

“I am saying this because further bombardment of oil facilities brings fresh fear to both oil companies and the communities,” he said.

He also appealed to the general public to desist from spreading fake rumours concerning the recent crisis in Gbaramatu kingdom, saying it did more harm than good.

While sympathizing with victims of the crisis, Chief Benikurukuru implored the general public not to use the recent crisis as an avenue to witch hunt one another.
