LOKOJA—THE police, yesterday, shot dead one member and arrested several others who belong to the kidnap gang that earlier abducted a 3-year-old boy in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.

The teenage boy, whose name was given as Ibrahim Kokori, son of former State Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdul Kokori, was abducted around 9pm, Tuesday, at his father’s residence while he was asleep.

Vanguard gathered that the kidnappers, wielding sophisticated weapons, were said to have stormed the private residence of the former PDP scribe and seized the boy demanding a ransom of N2 million to effect his release.

Confirming his release, the state Acting Commissioner of the Police, Abdullah Magaji, told newsmen that a lady, suspected to be a member of the gang, was also arrested and is currently helping the police with investigations.

According to Magaji, “The police got a distress call last night (Tuesday) that some four heavily armed men had invaded the residence of a former PDP secretary and forcefully taken away his 3-year-old son.”

He said the police immediately swung into action and mounted surveillance at a spot where the ransom was to be paid, adding that it was at the point of collection of the sum that the security operatives swooped the kidnappers.

“The Honda accord car with registration number, Lagos DJ 390 APP, which they used for the operation has been impounded,” he said.
