UGHELLI—POLICEMEN attached to Ughelli Area Command have arrested two persons for allegedly selling adulterated drinks to the public.

It was gathered that the suspects, Mr. Sunday Ekomoli, and Mrs. Patience Enadiamor, were arrested at the Ughelli Main Market, Tuesday, while offloading the said adulterated drinks from a bus, which was said to have also contained six 20 litres of gallons containing chemicals used in the production of the adulterated drinks.

Giving details of the arrest, a member of the Ughelli Main Market executive, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “One of the suspects, Mr. Ekomoli, was the driver of the bus used in conveying the drinks.

“He said he was only hired to transport the items from Onitsha for one M. C. and Oyis before he was arrested by the police, adding that he was oblivious of the fact that the drinks are fakes.”

According to the source, a manhunt has been launched for the arrest of other accomplices of the suspects, who are currently on the run.

Confirming the incident, a senior officer at the Ughelli Area Command, who does not want to be named, stated that the arrest of the suspect followed a tip-off from a good Nigerian, who hinted police of the suspects’ activities.

“We got a tip-off that some persons are bringing in adulterated drinks to the Ughelli Main Market from Onitsha; immediately mobilised and rounded up the suspects.”
