lagos—THE Chairman of Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, Justice Afolabi Adeyinka ,retd, has called on security agencies to protect the electorate against intimidation and other forms of election related violence to avoid voter apathy during the forthcoming local government election.
This came as stakeholders urged the commission to consider establishing an election offences commission to prosecute electoral offenders as a matter of urgency.
The observations were made in Lagos at a forum convened by LASIEC as part of its sensitization towards a credible conduct of the election.
Adeyinka, who commended security agencies for collaborating with the commission during the last exercise in the state, stressed the need for synergy among the security agencies for a successful poll.
Speaking at the event, Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, urged security personnel in the various security agencies to share information to ensure security of lives and property before and during the exercise.
