The Lions Club International has promised to triple its delivery of service to humanity and restoring dignity, to meet the Club’s centenary goals.
This was disclosed by the International President, Dr. Jitsuhiro Yamada at the just concluded 4-day 21st All Africa Conference, hosted by Multiple District 404 in Lagos.
Yamada words; “Our 100 year anniversary is approaching. The centenary service challenge is an ambitious undertaking. In other to reach our goal of serving 100 million people in the areas of youth, vision, hunger and the environment between now and June 30, 2018, it will be necessary to triple our output of services in these areas. Lions have continually shown willingness and ability to excel in challenges when it means other less fortunate people will benefit.
“The tradition of service has grown to meet the needs of communities and a changing world. We don’t just provide food, shelter or address the immediate needs, we provide hope and a promise of a brighter tomorrow.”
Chairperson, Lions Club International Foundation, Mr. Joe Preston, while explaining the activities of the Club’s ongoing programmes across Africa said; “Lions Club International has a lot of activities in Africa, one of which is medical healthcare intervention in vaccination and immunization programmes against deadly diseases like measles, river blindness, rubella, in partnership with Alliance for Vaccination (Gavi).
“We are grateful to work with wonderful leaders in Africa, not only the Lions members but government officials who opened doors for many opportunities. We also contribute finance to Special Olympics, youth education, solar related solutions and providing drinkable water for all in Africa.”
The 4-day event which featured exhibitions, lectures, cultural shows, visit to homes and a symposium, had the attendance of Robert E. Corlew , First Vice President International, Naresh Aggarwal, Second Vice President International, Rohit Mehta, Past International President, Dr. Manoj Shah, Chairperson, African Lions Steering, Alexis Vincent Gomes, Chairman, All Africa Conference, Engr. H. O. B. Lawal, Past Chairman, African Leadership Conference among others.
