Lagos—Two victims of the last Saturday’s Ijede-Badore bound boat mishap have been discharged from the hospital.
Seven victims were admitted into various hospitals within Ijede and its environs but three died while on admission while two have been discharged.
A source in Ijede General Hospital who pleaded anonymity told Vanguard yesterday that the remaining two were responding to treatment.
Four bodies were recorded immediately after the boat mishap while three of the earlier survivors died in the hospital putting the casualty figure at seven while four remained in the hospital but two of them were said to have been discharged as at the time of this report.
The hospital management were unwilling to comment about the development when Vanguard called.
Meanwhile, the boat operators have suspended operations pending the time those hospitalised are discharged from the hospital and the casualties are buried accordingly.
The Chairman of the jetty, Mr. Hassan Balogun, said the step was necessary to commiserate with the affected families and seek ways to forestall future re-occurrence.
He said the tragedy was caused by the activities of sand dredgers causing the ill-fated boat to run into the accumulated sand and tumble and fall off three minutes after it’s take off.
