Jonathan and Muazu
By Wale Akinola
Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Adamu Muazu, who resigned, last Wednesday, made last – minute effort to keep his job, Sunday Vanguard learnt at the weekend.
Sources at The Presidency said Muazu, on Tuesday night, called President Goodluck Jonathan on phone to inform him he had finally decided to quit his office in the interest of peace in the party.
Earlier that day, some PDP members behind the calls for the leadership to resign on account of the dismal performance of the ruling party at the general elections had launched scathing media attacks on the National Working Committee (NWC).
Muazu’s telephone call to Jonathan was believed to be his response to the resignation calls in his belief that the President would prevail on him to stay on as the PDP National Chairman.
“But the President simply told him to quit if that was the right thing to do,”one of the sources said.
