CPC House of Reps candidate makes u-turn on petition to INEC

The candidate of Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, for the 2011 general election to the House of Representatives, in Ogbaru Federal Constituency in Anambra State,  Hon. Mbieli Stephen has made a u-turn  in his earlier petition to INEC over the non-inclusion of his party name and  logo in the April 9 National Assembly election.

The candidate in his earlier petition to INEC dated April 9 had complained that he was duly nominated to contest on the platform of  CPC for the election according to Section 44(1) of the Electoral Act 2011 but the name and logo of his party did not appear on the ballot paper. Hon. Mbieli had appealed INEC to verify the injustice.

But the candidate  in another petition to INEC dated April 21 has made a u-turn on his earlier claims, this time, expressing  regret over his earlier petition saying that “truly, the party (CPC) had no candidate for the Ogbaru Federal Constituency due to the internal problems of the party.

“I regret the inconvenience this petition might have caused your commission towards giving the right judgement on the election which was free, fair and without incidents of malpractice.”

Meanwhile, the Resident Electoral Commissioner at Awka had cancelled the result of that election based on the earlier petition on the missing logo.
