Two years ago, daughter of Delta State Governor, Orode Jade Uduaghan, took upon herself the burden of creating awareness against the dreaded breast cancer. From a humble beginning in the Delta State capital, her foundation, the Pink Pearl Foundation, has taken the campaign against breast cancer outside the shores of Delta State, to Lagos metropolis and to groups who call upon her foundation.

“Poor nutrition ultimately changes body chemistry. The immune system can’t defend your body properly when biochemistry is altered. It can’t tell its own cells from invading toxic cells and in confusion, may attack everything or nothing. YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT.”

“Body no be firewood o.” This is a saying my husband David heard regularly during his growing up years from his father. In turn, my husband reminds me. From the time David met me he was amazed at the Type-A, non-stop perfectionist tendencies I exhibited. I would go from early morning to late at night without a break. In the twelve years he has known me, I have made major changes. However, I admit I still occasionally return to my old ways. When I do, my husband offers me this Pidgin English reminder and a smile.

Dear Jerome,

I will be 38 years old in August; still single, with broken relationships and no job though I am a graduate in Electronics Engineering. I have been jobless for 9 years now. I have no house of my own, no money and have to beg before I get money. Most times, I ask for death. It’s a useless life. I have been looking for love but I always meet the wrong type of men. Ps. 27:14 talks about WAITING ON GOD. I don’t know if I will be able to wait anymore. Every time, I cry and ask God when my sun will shine and all I get is silence.
