Participants at yesterday’s Vanguard’s Conference Hall reached many conclusions among which was that the future of Nigerian football lay in the domestic football. The conference said efforts should be made to develop it if Nigeria is to be a force on the road to 2014 World Cup. This was after a thorough analysis of the problems bedeviling our football in recent time, which the conference noted were not different from the problems plaguing the larger Nigerian society. The conference agreed that there should be a re-evaluation of the statutes on which football is run, amending them where necessary to enable people with adequate knowledge of football to run it.

Air transport has a unique advantage over all other modes of transport if speed, time and distance are major considerations. Air travel has developed very rapidly in Nigeria from the 1920s till date, but the 70s and 80s saw the development of many airports in many of the state capitals. Similarly, indigenous participation in the industry, originally exclusive to foreigners, has also expanded as indigenes acquired both the technical know-how and managerial resources, as well as funding to operate airlines.

The Nigerian Army was not cut out for direct roles in politics. Putting Nigeria’s sports in its proper perspective since independence is one that requires little brainstorming, given that since sports is judged by results, ours is simple and can be summed up as a prolonged failure.
To put it straight, our score card in major international championships has fallen short of expectations. We have not [...]

At 49, Nigeria as a nation remains a bundle of contradictions. As Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, once described it, the nation is a contradiction because what some people want negates what other people want and the result is what nobody wants. Almost half a century after independence, the country’s political [...]

At 49, Nigeria has nothing significant to celebrate. Unmet health needs are all Nigerians have to show. In the area of health, the nation has remained a toddler, refusing to grow and develop. The current state of the nation’s health industry sharply defines the level of decay, deploration and decadence [...]

The global economic recession, which started as global financial crisis reveals clearly how underdeveloped and vulnerable is the Nigeria economy even after 49 years of independence.
Successive administrations have pursued the objectives of economic diversification and self reliance. The economy is however still a mono-product. [...]
