Four retired soldiers have been arrested for the alleged murder of personnel of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Niger.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kogi Command, said on Tuesday that the agency was focused on reducing circulation of illicit drugs to forestall usage.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano State arrested 319 suspects and seized 4.7 tonnes of illicit drugs between January and March 2024 in the state.

The Nigeria Army, 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta, said it has handed over 441 pawpaw-sized substances, suspected to be cannabis sativa weighing 223 kg, to the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, Ogun State Command.

“No fewer than 5.2kg of cannabis sativa and opioids were discovered in the engine compartment of an inter-state commercial bus marked VDY 187 XA on Thursday 7th March 2024 along Gbongan – Ibadan road, Osun state by NDLEA officers on stop and search operation on the highway.”

“NDLEA operatives at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Command intercepted a suspicious package at the SAHCO Import Shed of the airport’s Cargo Terminal.”

Marwa stated this while inspecting facilities at the NDLEA barracks, which is almost ready for commissioning in Yola Adamawa State.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted large quantities of illicit drugs and substances in raids carried out in Ondo, Edo, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the past week.

“When the giant wooden boxes dressed as sound speakers seized by NDLEA officers at the NAHCO import shed of the Lagos airport, were opened, the sound boxes were stuffed with sixty (60) bags of the expensive but highly sought-after psychoactive substance, Loud, weighing 33.5 kilograms.”

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Osun Command, says it will continue to partner with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to fight crimes and drug abuse.

The charge was given at the opening ceremony of a two-day training on Drug Prevention Treatment and Care (DPTC), organised by NDLEA for spouses of state governors.

“Three suspects: Shuaibu Yahaya Liman, 35; Monday Audu, 33, and Linus Samuel, 42 have been arrested in connection with the seizure.”
