Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has proposed that President Bola Tinubu’s administration should remove subsidies on electricity for effective utilisations of energy in the country.

The number of electricity consumers rose by 240,000, from 11.47 million in the second quarter of 2023 to 11.71 million in the third quarter of 2023.

Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company, NNPC, Limited, Mr. Mele Kyari, yesterday, noted that for Nigeria to prosper and develop, it must bridge the energy gap.

The Commission also projected that in the absence of cost reflective tariff, electricity subsidies will hit N1.6 trillion in 2024.
