GOVER NORS of the 19 northern states rose from an emergency meeting yesterday in Kaduna, condemning the recent violent sectarian crisis in parts of the area perpetrated by Boko Haram, the Islamic sect opposed to western education.

THE Central Bank (CBN) yesterday barred banks from trading foreign exchange sourced from the official market among themselves, in a bid to curb the rising speculative activities in the nation’s foreign exchange market.

The State Coordinator and Chairman, Joint Implementation Committee of NAPEP, Mr. Austin Igbine, while empowering 100 households drawn from Okpe and Ethiope East local government area in Orerokpe with N5,000 each, said the programme would run for a period of one year.

His threats came against the backdrop of the heap of refuse which currently dots streets in the state capital, Uyo.
Akpan, who issued the threat during a meeting with the contractors and stakeholders in waste management in his office at the Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, Uyo, warned the contractors to sit up or risk losing their contracts.

A statement signed by the university’s Head of Public Relations, Mr. Eddy Akpomera, quoted the pro-chancellor as saying the council would abide by the Rule of Law and be transpa-rent in appointing a new vice-chancellor for the university.
