FORMER Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, who chaired the ceremony of the Champion Newspapers 2011 Man of the Year Award, held recently in Lagos, is a man of gravitas and impact. He is an orator par excellence.

WE cannot stop every germ that seeks to harm us any more than we can stop every person who seeks to harm us. But we can but try and government’s essential role in that regard is to contain it and improve our health. It is often said that health is wealth, but who cares and how?

SOME say it is an uncommon feat. Others believes it is unprecedented. And more than a few summed it up as divine. Which ever side of the divide one belongs, the ultimate truth of Senator David Mark’s success as the president of the Senate is that there is the Hand of God here. NIGERIA has a good climate for farming and vast areas of farmland, yet it has a problem with food security. There are about 14 million farmers in Nigeria, mostly smallholders, producing about 80 percent of the country’s food supply.

MY belief has always been … that wherever in this land any individual’s constitutional rights are being unjustly denied, it is the obligation of the Federal Government—at point of bayonet if necessary—to restore that individual’s constitutional rights (Ronald Reagan, 1983).
