Defection: Misadventure of 37 Federal legislators
PERMIT me to go straight to the point by calling on Nigerians, in the light of the recent defection of 37 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Representatives to the All Progressive Congress (APC), to draw attention to Section 68 (1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution as amended which states: “A member of the Senate or of the House of Representatives shall vacate his seat in the House of which he is a member if – being a person whose election to the House was sponsored by a political party, he becomes a member of another political party before the expiration of the period for which that House was elected; Provided that his membership of the latter political party is not as a result of a division in the political party of which he was previously a member or of a merger of two or more political parties or factions by one of which he was previously sponsored.”
GEJ and problems he did not create
NO language spoken by man compares, in universality, with body language. Not even Chinese (Mandarin) spoken by the largest number of humans on the surface of the earth, does. Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, Swahili, Japanese, Bengali and Hindi sparring with Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish – the so-called international auxiliary languages – are no match for body language in a game of universal versatility.
The decay of a regulator
NOLLOYWOOD is in tatters. And perhaps heading to irredeemable self destruction. A movie now has part one to eight. Each of these parts sometimes are less than 15 minutes. The pictures are blurred. Stories are disjointed or no stories at all. Decency, values we cherish have been thrown to the dogs. Nudity reigns. You don’t have to be an actress to sloppily flaunt your nakedness. That is the new acting.
