HUMAN behaviours are mostly determined by interests, be them group, personal, ideological or class interests. These interests can be outrageous, dictated by selfishness, avarice, mean-spiritedness, etc. They can also be altruistic, determined by indisputably selfless concerns for the betterment of others.

THE slogan of CHANGE was the magical tonic the All Progressive Congress [APC] brought into the arena of the Nigerian political dance floor immediately the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] qualified the association as a political party, albeit a mega one for that matter. And it worked in uniting the people for some reasons.

NOBODY in Nigeria until few days ago would think President Muhammadu Buhari could take a decision that would undermine the independence of INEC and public trust. The decision to direct the internal administrative workings of INEC through the choice of Amina Zakari to take-over the affairs of the Commision in the manner it was done came as a a great surprise.

It is just three weeks since the Eighth Senate was inaugurated on the proclamation prepared by President Muhammadu Buhari. Since then, a lot has happened within the institution which under normal circumstances should have attracted positive attention from members of the public, including the ardent critic of the nation’s legislature. However, all the developments in that upper chamber of our legislature had been overshadowed by the din emanating from the circumstances in which its leadership emerged.
