The death of Dr. Onukaba Ojo on Sunday March 5, 2017 in tragic circumstances while trying to avoid armed robbery attack on the Illesa – Akure road on his way back from Abeokuta to Abuja after attending the 80th birthday celebration of former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, is the saddest news that hit the Atiku Media Office. Dr. Onukaba, who was former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s Senior Special Assistant, Public Communication, had distinguished himself as one of Nigeria’s finest journalists, intellectuals, authors and playwrights. He was, in fact, an encyclopedic repository of knowledge, whose vast understanding of local and international politics added immeasurable value to the quality of work of the Atiku Media Office. His spellbinding contributions to our debate and discussions on issues were so outstanding that he would continue to be respected by every member of the team.

Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, a former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and immediate past governor of Edo State, clocks 65 on Tuesday. He was born on April 4, 1952 in Iyamho, near Auchi in today’s Edo State, into the humble family of Alhaji Aliyu Oshiomhole (of blessed memory) and Alhaja Aishetu Oshiomhole. With the restoration of democracy to Nigeria in 1999, Oshiomhole became the 4th President of the NLC. As NLC President, Oshiomhole built the labour movement as an independent, militant and socially responsive fighting organization.Under Oshiomhole’s leadership, the NLC became the number one defender of the rights and welfare of the working people. Thus, Oshiomhole led the NLC and the rest of the Nigerian people to resist arbitrary increases in the prices of petroleum products. He led the strikes, demonstrations and protests, which decisively helped to moderate the Obasanjo administration on its harsh fuel pricing policy and other social and economic policies, which would have endangered the welfare of the people.

Despite diverse opinions about Governor Aminu Bello Masari administration in Katsina State, one common denominator in the views of the people is that there is relative peace in the state. And this, they agree, can bring gradual development.
