This week is very important.  Nigerians are on tenterhooks, awaiting the results of elections to know whether President Buhari will remain in office or a new president will replace him. We’re just about two days away from knowing what we’ve waited to know all year.

The military is a disciplined institution with a command structure that brooks no disrespect for constituted authorities. Hence the tendency by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai to be finicky in dealing with any directive from the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, who is himself a retired army general.

Is Nigeria worth dying for? May the patriotism in me not allow  me question my belief in the entity called Nigeria.

The country is faced with the dire task of making the 2019 general elections free (as in truly unrestricted and according to people’s choice) and fair (as in actually impartial). Last Saturday, despite all the alluring promises by leaders, Nigeria pulled off a “no show;” the poll was cancelled at the last minute. But instead of asking the right questions so as to get the right answers, public officials have been dodging responsibilities and pulling off the most acrimonious blame game.
