HUNDREDS of Okpe women and youths from Ughoton village in Okpe council area of Delta State yesterday protested the acquisition of over 150 acres of their community farmland without adequate compensation by the state government even as they accused the community leadership of collecting gratification of N10million.

WORRIED by the incessant road accidents in the nation’s high ways, the Benin monarch, Oba Erediauwa, has urged the Federal Ministry of Works, to erect road signs which usually serve as a guard to motorists on highways.

Youths in Sangana in the Brass local government area of Bayelsa State may be heading for a showdown with the Continental Oil and Gas Limited (Conoil) over what they described as non consultation of their traditional ruler and the chiefs’ council by the company in relating with the community.

MOVEMENT for the Emancipation of the Niger-Delta alleged yesterday that some of the weapons surrendered by militants in Bayelsa State on September 22 were those seized in a November 12, 2007 raid on Cameroon gendarmes after 21 of them were killed by Nigerian soldiers.

The commission is to look at Ehima’s administration from December 2007 to July 28, 2009 and it will find out how much was received by the council from Statutory Allocations including revenue from the excess crude account and the Internally Generated Revenue of the council within the period.
