Mr. Ahmed Raji, SAN, has said that the rise in acts of terrorism in Nigeria cannot be attributed to defects in the laws of the country.

In a paper he delivered at the just concluded annual general conference of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, in Owerri, he said that the Terrorism Prevention Act, TPA, which according to him was Nigeria’s principal tool in prosecuting terrorism emphasizes respect for the fundamental rights of suspects or accused persons.

The Police in Akure, Ondo state, recently made a breakthrough by arresting 34 suspected criminals involved in various misdemeanors in and around the state. Among those arrested were suspected cultists,internet/cyber fraudsters, armed robbers and receivers of stolen vehicles.

The recently released results of the West Africa Examination Council, WAEC, Senior School Certificate Examination, SSCE, for May/June 2014 have generated an uproar across the country. The results showed that about 69 percent of the candidates who sat for the examination failed to get credit passes in five subjects including English Language and mathematics.
