President Goodluck Jonathan will flag-off the development of Abuja City Centre, estimated at $3.5 billion, before May 29, 2015. This assurance was given last week by the Minister, Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, Senator Bala Mohammed when investors in the project made an in-depth presentation to the FCT Administration’s team. He described the project as one of the milestone achievements of the present administration.

The Lagos state government said last week that the demolition of the fence of St. Peters Claver Catholic Church, in Ajao-Estate was not an attempt to take over anyone’s property. The government claimed that the demolition was based on the overall public interest, as the said wall should not have been annexed in the first place.

Stakes are high for the African Ministerial Conference on Environment, AMCEN which began yesterday in the Egyptian capital city of Cairo. AMCEN and African civil society groups expect that the conference will define a concrete blueprint that will guide the continent to discussions on the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs to be concluded in New York and Paris climate change conference that is likely to agree on a new climate change agreement, which will come into effect by 2020.

UN-Habitat last week, launched call for applications for the Urban Youth Fund. In its seventh year, the Fund provides grants to projects led by young people aged 15-32 years who are piloting innovative approaches to employment, good urban governance, shelter, secure tenure and risk rehabilitation.

Despite the delay in completing the second phase of the ongoing N220 billion Lagos-Badagry expressway expansion, the Lagos State government last week, reaffirmed its resolve to complete the massive project.
