“We do not know why we were born with cancer. Did we or our ancestors wrong the gods? Even scientists have no acceptable explanation,” they ask. “Thousands of us are born every day. Right now, we have no idea how many we are. Our plight is overshadowed, perhaps because no one understands what we go through. “We have suffered much and for long, and now, we wish to let the society know what it is like to be a child living with cancer in the hope that this will bring us attention and succour.”

‘‘Mosquitoes are carriers of malaria parasite and they breed in dirty environment. Keeping the environment clean means that mosquitoes have no breeding place, if we can stop the life circle of the insect through constant cleaning of our environment and application of the insecticide that have the ability to kill mosquitoes 100 percent, that means we have succeeded in killing the disease,”

The Institute of Directors, IoD, Nigeria, penultimate week, embarked on a health walk tagged “Walk For Life” (WFL) to ensure healthy living among directors and participants. The fitness exercise which lasted for about 1hr, 45minutes took off from IoD’s office at 53 Glover Road, Ikoyi-Lekki, with participants going through Malverton and Alexander roads, across Lekki/Ikoyi Bridge.

The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, PSN, has reaffirmed its call to the Federal Ministry of Health to halt the commercialisation of pharmacy facilities in Federal Health Institutions once and for all in the interest of national health. Making the call, in a petition to the Minister of Health, Dr. Khaliru Alhassan, the PSN President, Pharm. Olumide Akintayo, said rather than abate, the tendencies and flair for vindictive actions targeted against pharmacists and the profession of pharmacy has continued unchecked at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin and Federal Medical Centre, Owerri.

Even as the Nigerian and South African governments are contending with a diplomatic row arising from the series of xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other Africans residing in South Africa, the two countries are strongly collaborating on the medical front, specifically in the area of gastrointestinal medicine.
