Beware of ‘One-Chance Investment’

Beware of ‘One-Chance Investment’

One of the noticeable features of complaints received from investors over time is that many have fallen victim of what can be described as ‘one-chance investment’. For the benefit of those not familiar with the term one-chance, it is a term created by commercial busses in Lagos. For example, when 13 passengers have boarded a 14 seater commercial bus, the bus conductor, in a bid to attract the last passenger will began to shout, “ Oshodi, Oshodi, one-chance”.

Dear Investors Forum, thank you so much for championing my struggle to have DataMax Registrars pay my controverted GTB dividend. Your publication of my case in the Vanguard edition of Tuesday, Sept. 17 woke them up from their reverie of false sense of victory over me. After a flurry of telephone calls following the publication, DataMax finally admitted their crime or offence or error and lodged my money on Friday last week. Yes! Vanguard’s ink of altruism has proven mightier than DataMax’s sleight of the accounting pen! I can truly, deeply appreciate you for I am in the news media myself; I work for a private TV station in Anambra State. I can’t thank you enough, my brethren, our print media ambassadors. God bless u all. -UDENTA CHRIS C.

SEC should ensure proper utilisation of newly acquired Growth Fund

I think it will bring about more investments. This is a civilized country, and we need to enlighten people. Even SEC has told us that it needs so many shareholders’ associations; that the ones in existence are not enough. With the international Growth Fund it has acquired, we only pray that it would be used for the purpose it is meant for, which is for the development of the capital market. It will not make sense if they keep acquiring fund and we don’t seeing the benefits of the fund.

Shareholders’ attitude at AGMs is embarrassing …

Shareholders’ attitude at AGMs is embarrassing …

I have been observing that so many investors come to Annual General Meetings, AGMs, just to collect the food and gift items that are being shared. The way people queue up to collect gift items and all is uncalled for. It is not as if it’s bad; the companies are only using it to appreciate the fact that they (the shareholders) came for the meeting. But the way some of the shareholders conduct themselves is very bad.
