AKURE—A former Senator in the Third Republic,  Remi Okunrinboye, weekend in Ondo State joined the Senatorial contest in the State under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and charged the people of the state to join mainstream Nigerian politics.

He pointed out that there was an urgent need for the state to return to the mainstream of politics in the country for it to be able to solve some of the problems facing it.

Speaking with newsmen in Owo, Okunrinboye who was a member of the Senate during the aborted transition of 1992, said PDP remained the only party with a national outlook that could move the country forward.

According to him, “we in Ondo State cannot afford to be in opposition, our people must move to the mainstream of Nigerian politics in order to be there when fundamental decisions that will affect us will be taken.”

He said it was high time Nigerians came together to install credible leadership with people of proven integrity in offices and  said he decided to join the race in the Ondo North Senatorial district to provide adequate representation.

Senator Bode Olajumoke who is of the PDP and still interested in the seat is the present occupier of the seat Okunrinboye is eyeing in the senate.
