Aero contractors has concluded plans to launch its flight operations to Libreville, the Gabonese capital, with effect from September 20, 2010.

This comes as the airline has introduced free tickets for infants aboard all its domestic flights in the country.
According to Aero’s Commercial Manager, Robert Prophet, the launch of the route is part of the airline’s strategy of focusing on its operations in Africa, which is a key growth area for the airline and also as part of the airline’s regional expansion programme.

The route will be serviced using Boeing 737aircraft, essentially meaning a maximum uptake of about 144 passengers per flight.

Prophet said: “We are making travel more convenient and reliable for our customers. It is a proud moment to welcome Libreville into the family, a destination which we are confident will serve our customers well.
“The need to fill a yawning gap in the transportation requirement in the Central African zone prompted the operation of flights to Libreville, Gabon.

“Libreville, situated in West Africa, is the capital and largest city of Gabon. The country has attracted significant foreign interests as a result of its oil reserves, which boomed from 1970.”

He noted that oil as Gabon’s most important natural resource which, according to him, is a key driver of economic growth.

Prophet noted also that the oil industry was a major source of foreign exchange, accounting for the majority of the country’s exports, and listed Gabon’s other natural resources to include timber, manganese and uranium.”

Meanwhile, Aero has introduced free flights for infants on its entire domestic network.
