Kwara United coach Kadiri Ikhana is confident that local coaches can handle the senior national team if given the needed support and encouragement.

The former CAF Champions League winning coach, says for years the countrya’s  football has suffered  badly in the hands of the foreign expatriates without  improvement and need the hands of indigenous coaches in the country.

He said the recent  national team flop in the last World Cup, should be a lesson to the country  that foreign coaches are not always the best . Adding that the local coaches in the country should be given the chance to lead the country once again.

“It is crystal clear that we  have much trust on the foreign coaches than our local coaches even when they have  failed  us. The poor performance in the 2010 World Cup should be able to tell us that it is not about  foreign coach.

“We need to give our coaches the opportunity to prove themselves, we have whole lot  of them, the problem is that the opportunity has not been given to them. They need to be treated well to be able to carry out their duties diligently. I believe with a good indigenous  coaches and an enabling environment to function we would go further in our football,” Ikhana said.
