OKPOKO community in Ogbaru Local Government, Area of Anambra state has endorsed Senator Joy Emodi, who until April 2010 was the Senator representing Anambra North District, for re- election in the 2011 general poll. The community said that they were satisfied with Emodi’s representation in the Senate.
Meanwhile, Emodi has donated hospital equipment worth millions of Naira to Okpoko Community Health Centre to boost the health delivery system of the people. Okpoko is a densely populated suburb of Onitsha.
The equipment include patients gowns, aprons for medical workers, giant refrigerators, instrument cabinets, gynaecological couch, theatre wheels, chairs, tables, test tubes, fans, among other items.
The people commended Emodi who a fortnight ago had staged a football tournament for youths in the area. They also recalled her scholarship programme for the youths as well as her widowhood empowerment programme, and resolved to support her for another term in the Senate.
Speaking on the gesture, the traditional head of the Okpoko New Haven kingdom, Chief Benson Muofunanya said they would vote en masse for Emodi in 2011 because of the democracy dividend she attracted to the people of the area within the five years she represented them in the senate.
Muofunanya advised politicians to play the game according to the rule and avoid anything that would bring about violence and electoral fraud in the election. He also warned that youths should not be engaged as thugs as had been the case in the past.
He urged the Igbo people to support President Jonathan Goodluck in the 2011 general election to ensure continuity and good governance for the country in its entirety.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Joy Emodi Unity Cup Competition, which was between Muobike Footfall Club and Enuaku Football Club, Ogbaru I constituency, Emodi appealed to the people to vote for her so that they would continue to enjoy what they had been enjoying while she was at the senate.
She pledged to ensure that the Unity cup competition is played annually so that youths in the area would not only be kept busy but would be selected to represent Nigeria in international competitions.
At the end of the keenly competed match, Muobike won the trophy with 8 points against Enuaku FC that had 7 points.
