OBUBRA— TIGHT security has been mounted at both the entrance and exit points of the training camp for the ex-militants in Obubra, Cross River State, apparently to forestall the unwholesome behaviour of some of the participants in the first batch.

The tight security was also not unconnected with the complaint of the community to Governor Liyel Imoke, who visited the camp last Friday. He had assured the community that government had taken measures to keep the former creek dwellers in check.

In addition to the security measures, a new access road had been built to link the section of the trainees to the main road, thereby sealing off the entrance that connects them to the NYSC orientation camp.

Vanguard gathered at the camp that there would be legislation to guide the movement of the 670 trainees from Edo, Delta and Ondo States, in accordance with the rules of the camp through the directives of ministry handling their affairs.

The ex-gunmen who arrived at the camp between Saturday and Sunday, were eventually documented when the required number formed up on parade, yesterday, where they were later drilled with the rules and regulations of the camp.

At press time, the men had been locked-in while armed soldiers, policemen and civil defence officers manning the gates were equally turning back visitors who “could not explain properly their reason for being there.”

The ex-militants who would have to spend 10 days in camp would participate in a programme at the weekend described as Weekend Fairs during their stay  in which 18 industries and over 80 schools would be expected to teach participants 1000 vocations.

When Vanguard visited the camp, it was a beehive of activities as ex-militants were seen going through the process of registering their names and  undergoing medical examinations.

Briefing news men at the camp, the Coordinating Officer for Media/Consultants, Prof. Ekpein Appah said: “All of them have been accommodated and lectures start tomorrow (today). Now we are on documentation, ascertaining blood groups and health condition.”

Also speaking, National Chairman of the Foundation For Ethnic Harmony In  Nigeria, FEHN, which is in charge of the Orientation and Rehabilitation, Barr. Allen Onyema, urged Nigerians to support the programme.
