Edo lawmaker tasks NASS on constitution amendments

 By Simon Ebegbulem

THE Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly, Mr Philip Shuaibu, has called on the National Assembly to publish the list of state assemblies that passed the “first line charge” in the amended law which gave the National and State Assemblies financial autonomy if the amended constitution is passed into law.

He argued that that section of the constitution would usurp the powers of the executive if passed into law, adding therefore that for the sake of transparency in the entire process of the amendments, Nigerians needed to know the actually state assemblies that passed that particular section into law so as to avoid controversy.

Shuaibu, who explained that the state House of Assembly refused to pass that particular section due to what he described as the negative consequences, was reacting to a publication that 24 state Houses of Assembly have approved that particular section.
