Having spent a number of years abroad and like many Nigerians in the Diaspora want to do, I decided it was time to return home and be an employer of labour.

Of course, this was also on the prompting of my foreigner-friends who wanted to partner me in my endeavour.

We got a place in Agege to be used as a factory but it has been a nightmare commuting to and from work.  The road in question is the Old Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

Close to a year that I have been plying this road, it has deteriorated to the extent that you wonder whether there is a department in charge of roads in any of the arms of the government that will be willing to take responsibility for this deplorable road.

It beats one’s mind that people have to add this suffering to the numerous problems already created by people elected or otherwise.  From a layman’s point of view, it is expected that there is some money budgeted for repair of roads every year.

If there is no meaningful repair, then there is something wrong somewhere or in very clear terms, someone somewhere is stealing money meant for such projects.

This stretch of road (between Ile-Zik and Agege Market in particular) is so bad it beats one’s imagination that no one in the local government or state government has not deemed it fit to do something to ease the suffering of the already down-and-almost-out of commuters who ply this very important road.

You don’t need to be a soothsayer to know that very soon people would say that enough is enough and take some actions that might cause unrest in Agege and/or for the chairman.  Whoever needs to have this stretch of road done should do something now or have only himself to blame.
