KANO — A team of detectives headed by DC Tanko Lawan has been commissioned by the Kano Police Command to investigate attempt by a 19-year-old boy on the life of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero last Friday at the central mosque in the city.
Already two suspects, Usman Musa, and Abubakar Hamidu, 65, are in police net over their role in the incident that was foiled by the Royal Guard shortly after the Friday prayers.

Vanguard learnt that there was pandemonium at the central mosque when the 19-year-old lad armed with fake pistol tried vainly to attack the emir sitting on the first row at the central mosque.

Vanguard learnt that the suspected assassin was over-powered by the retinue of Royal Guards, dispossessed him of the fake pistol, while others ferried the royal father to safety.

Briefing journalists on the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kano, Baba Muhammad Azare, said the police recovered from the suspect an object that look like pistol, and  live ammunition from the 19 year-old while a search warrant was conducted immediately in the house of the 65-year-old who alleged sponsored him.

“The CP has ordered full investigation on the incident, the team of detectives is being coordinated by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Lawan Tanko, and is mandated to carry out through investigation on the incident,”Azare said.

I was hypnotised —Suspect

In a chat with Vanguard, the 19-year-old suspect,Usman Musa explained that he was “hypnotised” by the old man to execute the emir, adding that he recently delivered to the alleged sponsor a total sum over N3 million proceed from a robbery incident in Abuja.
The plot

Musa said the order to kill the emir was impressed on him after delivering the robbery proceed to Hamidu who handed over to him “a charm, a fake pistol and instructed him to sit on the second row close to the emir in the mosque.”

The suspect revealed that he was introduced to the man by his biological father who normally sent him to collect concoction for him, pointing that it was through that relationship established 10 years ago that was exploited to use him for pecuniary benefits.

Hamidu denies allegation

In separate chat, Hamidu agreed he had acquaintances to the boy but denied the allegation, describing it as “mischief concocted to rubbish his image.”

Asked to explain how the boy got to know his spot where he was picked up on that Friday, Hamidu said the spot had been his traditional place over the last 30 years in the mosques, pointing out that the boy had at one time met him there while on an errand.
