The Nigeria association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture – NACCIMA) has lauded the federal Government on its adoption of strategic approach to the power sector reform that has presently resulted in improved gas supply to the electric power generation stations in the country.

Dr Simon Chukwuemeka Okolo MFR the National President of the Nigerian Association, Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) who made the observation in a recent statement to industry reporters in Lagos extolled President, Dr. Goodlock Ebele Jonathan GCFR for deeming it fit to take charge of  the power ministry to hasten speedy reforms of the energy subsector which holds the key to the country’s rapid industrial development and growth.

He praised the government for its appointment of Proff. Bath Nnaji as a Special Adviser to the president on energy, describing it as putting a round peg in a round hole on account of Prof. Nnaji’s international exposure, profile and deep experience in the energy subsector.

Dr. Okolo who is also a member of the Presidential Advisory Council (PAC) enjoined government to endeavour to properly address the issues of salaries and all entitlements of the PHCN workers in its efforts and process of privatizing the PHCN and its subsidiary companies.

The NACCIMA Boss further enjoined government to see the urgent and dire need  for a speedy power reform, through a spirited review of the 1999 constitution, which though placed the issue of electric power supply under the concurrent list, and consequently gives the right to make laws on power supply to both federal and also to state government assemblies, it however has limited the states power for generation, transmission and distribution for electricity only to areas not covered by a national Grid System within that state.”
