Go, clean up the mess, Minister orders Task Force

Apparently burdened by the mirage of issues leading to the creation of the ministerial task force on port charges and efficiency in port operations, the minister of transport, Alhaji Yusuf Suleiman has charged the team to ensure that users of shipping services henceforth get value for their money and that no port user or operator is cheated.

Speaking at a meeting with members of the task force in Lagos last weekend, the minister acknowledged that his office had been inundated with complaints by port users and different stakeholders.

The task force which is led by Mrs. Chinwe Ezenwa; a deputy director in the ministry of transport was said to have given the minister a preliminary report on the group’s work so far ; a development which reportedly gingered the minister to reiterate his commitment to ensuring that the nation’s sea ports are rid of all manners of illegal charges and arbitrary levies.

It will be recalled that the minister had on Thursday June 3, 2010 inaugurated a seven-member task force to look into all allegations pertaining to high port charges and delays in cargo delivery process in the ports.

Members of the task force include: Ms Aina Egharevba, executive director, marine and operations, NPA,  Port Manager, Lagos Port Complex, Mr. Joshua Ashanga, national president, Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs
