OBI- NGWA Welfare Association, OWA,  has appealed to the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu, to intimate President Goodluck Jonathan of the deteriorating security condition in Aba and other areas of Ngwa-land in Abia State.

At a courtesy call on the Minister in his office, leaders of OWA lamented that the increasing spate of kidnapping and armed robbery in Ngwaland, Abia State , was turning the area into a wasteland.

A statement by Emmanuel Aziken, Special Assistant (Media) to the Labour Minister, said the Chairman of the Association, Comrade Uzo Aguomba, who led the 12-man delegation to the Minister in his address, said: “Sir, please we wish to emphasise on the recurring problem facing us in Ngwa land; and that is the kidnapping cankerworm.

We urge you to please use your good offices, contacts, connection and good-will to brief Mr. President on the realities of this epidemic and call for his prompt action towards eradicating this ugly trend, which has not only led to the geometrical rise in the death rate of our people, but led to mass exodus of our people to foreign lands and decline in and around Aba metropolis.”

Responding, Chief Wogu urged the association members to pray for grace for the president to accomplish all that he had set out to achieve, even as he disclosed the president’s determination to confront the security threat in the region.

According to him, “I spent ten years in government job I did not disgrace you, rather, I kept a good name and you gave me support in that you did not see that place as a place to make money.”
