Yenagoa -The Bayelsa State House of Assembly committee Chairman on Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Kombowei Benson, yesterday, blamed the spate of bomb blasts and insecurity in the state for the lawmakers’ relocation to Government House .

Benson who brief newsmen at the Super Lodge, Government House in Yenagoa  debunked insinuations that the house members were induced monetarily to oust the embattled Deputy Governor, Peremobowei Ebebi.

Defending their relocation to the Government House, he said there was a recent bomb blast close to the quarter housing the lawmakers at the Ekeki suburb of the capital city.

“The state is in a panicking situation as bombs blasts hit streets and private houses in the state capital. Insecurity is everywhere, and lives no longer safe. Bayelsa State is always filled with security problems,” he said.
This, according to him, prompted them to take refuge in Government House while others relocated to Lagos and Port Harcourt.
He, however, said they were not running away citing their sitting last Thursday and that the house would reconvene Tuesday next week for legislative business.

On allegation that they were induced to initiate the impeachment process against the estranged deputy governor, he said there was no iota of truth in the claim and also dismissed the rumour making the round that it was tied to the executive releasing the constituency funds of memebrs.

“The constituency fund is not tied to the impeachment process. It is always release around February and March but for the sharp fall in the state revenue,” he declared. 

“The assembly is not comfortable with the rumours of inducement of lawmakers. The impeachment was done without any personal grudge or sponsored. The assembly over time has seen the misunderstanding between the governor and the deputy as well as the insult on the administration he (Ebebi) is serving and deemed it necessary to serve Ebebi impeachment notice. Nobody induced the assembly,” he explained.

The lawmaker insisted that the onus lies on the deputy to reply to the allegations leveled against
Stressing that the house had made good laws over the years he noted, adding that it was the desire of the house to make people in the village feel the impact of good governance and not do the bidding of one man.
