PDP APGA LGO

Awka—THE Anambra State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has petitioned the state House of Assembly, urging it to commence the impeachment of Governor Willie Obiano over alleged constitutional breaches.
The state chairman of the party, Prince Ken Emeakayi said during PDP stakeholders meeting in Awka that it was an impeachable offence for the governor to have traveled abroad and spent 30 days without transmitting a letter to that effect to the state House of Assembly as required by the Nigerian constitution.
According to Emeakayi, even when the governor returned from the overseas trip, he still did not inform the state assembly of his return, adding that the action had made the governor unfit to continue to act as the governor of the state.
The PDP chairman said: “The governor should, as a matter of fact, respect the constitution of Nigeria. As we speak, he is not supposed to continue to perform as governor.

“For not transmitting such a letter, everything he is doing in the state is null and void and of no effect.
“We have written the police, the DSS and other security agencies in the country to let them know that the governor is now acting illegally and what he is doing is likely to cause the breach of the peace in the state.”
He said that for the governor to have also failed to conduct local government elections in the state as required by Section 7 of the constitution, also amounted to an impeachable offence, adding that the party gathered that there were plans by the governor to appoint caretaker committees into the councils, instead of conducting elections as required by law.
But reacting to the PDP threat, the senior special assistant to the governor on media, strategic communication and legislative matters, Prince Oliver Okpala described the allegation as laughable.
Okpala said: “The present development and allegations are laughable because the person making them has a case of locus standi in law to decide if he is a fit and proper person to speak on behalf of the PDP as the chairman in Anambra State.
“Is he the proper person to speak or write any letter to the state assembly as state chairman of the party? Which side of the party does he belong to; the Markafi faction or the Ali Modu Sheriff faction?”
Meanwhile, PDP also vowed to reclaim the Anambra State Government House after the governorship election billed to take in the state later this year.
The state chairman of the party, Prince Kenneth Emeakayi, who addressed PDP supporters from the 326 political wards in the state during their meeting in Awka, said he convened the meeting to assure genuine members of the party that there would be light at the end of the tunnel as the major stakeholders were working hard to regain the lost ground.
According to him, PDP remained the party to beat in the state, adding that the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, only exploited the seeming division in PDP to win governorship elections in the state, with the support of disloyal PDP members.
