The Buhari administration has been called upon to listen to the voice of reason by restructuring the country without delay. A group – Advance Action Alliance, led by High Chief Owolabi Salis, a former Lagos State governorship aspirant – said there can’t be peace and unity in the country without restructuring.

There is need for diversity-based democracy in the country, the group said. Christening the restructuring as ‘One Nigeria Project’, Salis noted that Nigeria had been besetted by a myriad of problems since independence in 1960 because the country’s political structure was defective and lopsided and our former leaders refused to remedy the situation.

Salis, a US-based attorney, listed the major problems afflicting the country to include ethnic, religious and race-based crisis like Boko Haram, IPOB, Niger Delta among others.

Others are fraud, rigging, armed robbery, politically motivated killings, hate campaigns, human rights abuses, false election promises, disregard for equity and loss of confidence in the country’s political system.

In view of the problems, the group explained that there is need to restructure Nigeria for stronger unity in the country, stressing that the problems could lead to war.

The Advance Action Alliance noted that Nigeria’s current structure does not address all the  problems. “Rather, the system is compounding them while the major victims are the less privileged people who constitute over seventy percent of the population.

The group announced a nationwide campaign, through workshop, to foster national unity and make Nigeria a better place  to live in.
