The League Management Company (LMC) says the Enugu State Government has assured it and football fans of a successful hosting of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Super4 tournament.

LMC’s Head of Special Projects, Harry Iwuala, said in a statement on Friday that the assurances were conveyed to the LMC through the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Charles Ndukwe.

The tournament will hold at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu from Dec. 7 to Dec. 11.

“Ndukwe disclosed that the State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, described the hosting of the tournament as an honour to the state and an indication that Enugu is a frontline football state,’’ Iwuala said.

The statement also quoted the State Football Association Chairman, Chidi Okenwa, as describing the NPFL Super4 hosting as the finest moment for the people of Enugu State.

“It is a fine moment, especially with its coming on the heels of Rangers International’s triumph in the 2015/2016 season of the NPFL,’’ he said.

There were reports that the Commissioner and the State FA Chairman met with Ugwuanyi on Wednesday night at the Government House on the tournament.

“They met to discuss plans for not only hosting the tournament but also how to inspire Rangers to win the tournament.

“This is another great football moment for us in Enugu State and our target is not just to host the best NPFL Super4 tournament but to crown it with victory for Rangers”, the Governor was quoted as saying.

Rivers United of Port Harcourt, Wikki Tourists of Bauchi and FC IfeanyiUbah of Nnewi are the three clubs that will join Rangers for the country’s biggest pre-season tournament.

It is organised by the LMC to prepare clubs representing Nigeria in CAF Club competitions.

The tournament is usually a hub for international and domestic football player scouts who throng the venue to assess some of the best players in the nation’s top flight league.

Akwa United FC of Uyo won the last edition.
