The Kaduna State Government has urged communities in Chawai, Kauru Local Government, to shun mischief makers pushing them to violence.

“Anybody bringing any message that will bring crisis, you let him know that you have lost enough and you don’t want to loose more,” Deputy Governor of the state, Mr Barnabas Bantex said during a visit to the area.

The News Agency of Nigeria [NAN] reports that three communities in the area were attcked on Sunday, and scores of people were allegedly killed.

He said it was important for people in the area, and others across the sourthen part of the state, to know that insecurity would only retard progress and bring about avoidable anguish.

“We have inherited a legacy of a complete breakdown of law and order.

“If you go to Birnin Gwari, which is probably worst hit, Kubau and quite a number of local government areas in the state, have been taken over by armed bandits.

“We are working across the state to restore order. There is no single agenda set a side for any particular people,” he said.

The deputy governor said people in the area must refrain from “over politicising the issues, but look at the root causes of the crisis and find lasting solution to the problems.”

Bantex pledged that the government would continue to provide security to protect lives and property of all citizens, and cautioned residents aginst taking the law into their hands.

He said the communities must work together with all residents irrespective of religious and tribal differences to bring about lasting peace.

“Already the government is spending huge amouth of money on a monthly basis to support security forces deployed to the area.

“We are here to assess the situation which resulted to loss of lives and property, and to undertake preliminary research of the situation.

“Looking at the vast nature of land and the gaps between villages, you will know that no number of security men even, if we are to take apparatus from neighboring state into Kaduna, will ensure peace, if the people themselves are not willing to live in peace.”

According to him, the government understands the nexus between insecurity, poverty and unemployment.

He said that the state government would take measures to restrict the movement of Fulani herdsmen, to reduce the level of disagreements with farmers.

“We need their youth to be exposed to education and other social amenities to be able to draw a demarcation between our indigenous fulanis and those that comes from where we do not know,” he said.(NAN)
