Zakkat board rehabilitates 20 lunatics in Zamfara

Zakkat and Endowment Board, yesterday, said it had treated and rehabilitated 20 lunatics in the state this year.

Alhaji Liman Surajo, the Board’s Executive Secretary, told newsmen in Gusau that the beneficiaries were from Gusau Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, the 20 mentally-sick persons were sponsored to various hospitals across the country for treatment.

He expressed delight that all the 20 beneficiaries had been reintegrated into their respective communities.

He added that money collected from an area or community was shared to the orphans, the poor and the needy of the same community.

According to him, 180 persons benefited from the N1.6 million the board collected in Gusau Local Government Area.

The Executive Secretary, who thanked contributors to the fund, reminded Muslims that Zakkat and endowment were mandatory on those who had the means.

He added that Zakkat was aimed at reducing poverty among the Muslim faithful.
