Nnewi—A suspected member of Aye confraternity was, yesterday, shot dead by a rival cult group in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, while two houses, including a prayer ministry at Amafor and Our Lady’s Roads, were razed.

Vanguard gathered that the deceased was shot dead by his assailants, who laid an ambush for him near his home.

Youths in the area were said to have immediately mobilised and set the family house of one of the rival cult members suspected to be behind the killing, ablaze.

A prayer house located at Our Lady’s Road believed to be where the parents of one of the killer cultists worships, was also set ablaze by the irate youths, numbering about 50.

The suspected cultists were, however, said to have disappeared when Vanguard visited the scenes of the incidents.

An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, claimed that many youths in Nkpor and Ogidi were members of Aye and other rival cults he could not remember their names, lamenting that they openly boasted about their membership, threatening anybody to challenge them.

Contacted on the incident, Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Nkiru Nwode, said she was in a meeting and pleaded to call back afterwards.

However, at press time, she had not called and calls made to her mobile phone were not answered, neither did she reply the text message sent to her phone.
