National Chairman Community for Peace and Corrupt-Free Society of Nigeria, CPCSN, Engr. Ahmed Zakari Nguroje, in this interview, shared his thoughts on burning national issues and stressed the need for Nigerians to support President Muhammadu Buhari to  deliver on his campaign promises.

ON the goals of CPCSNIt is a platform for us to sensitize, educate and mobilize Nigerians on the need for us as a people to live peacefully and co-exist in mutual respect. We want to use the NGO to let Nigerians understand that the fight against corruption is not supposed to be that of the president alone. It is supposed to be a fight for all patriotic Nigerians and that Nigerians must surely key in and support this administration in its fight against corruption.

The third is for us to educate Nigerians on the need for us to support this administration so that the administration can be in a position to deliver all its campaign promises to Nigerians. There is no way he can deliver on those promises.

Nigerians must key in because for us to have a corrupt-free society, it means that all of us must think alike in terms of recognizing that corruption is the enemy of the country.

Zakari: Wants support for Buhari

If you consider what have been going on in the country, a situation where we have Boko Haram that came up like a joke and then they have caused destruction to this country, especially in the North-East.

You can see the importance of peace. You don’t take any violence for granted; from the beginning, we took Boko Haram for granted. While Government is trying to quench Boko Haram, IPOB agitating for Biafra Republic and Niger Delta Avengers came up.

This is completely unacceptable because the president appears confused on where to face. We need to start supporting our government and it doesn’t matter the political party, religious and ethnic group the individual belongs. Let’s support the government of Muhammadu Buhari so that he will be in a position to deliver to Nigerians the promises he made before the 2015 presidential elections.  This is important because Buhari is not APC president. He is the president of the entire nation.

If all Nigerians had rallied round former President Goodluck Jonathan, would there have been a change?

Maybe! If Nigerians had rallied around Goodluck Jonathan for the five years he was in Office, probably we would not have found ourselves where we are today.

So it is not just an issue of President Buhari. Every president that comes to power, Nigerians must take it as a duty to support that president. We must move away from business as usual.

Let’s begin to behave like Americans, who love their country so much. Nigerians should love their country and support their presidents because if the president fails, the pains and negativity of his failure will impact on Nigerians. But if he succeeds, it will for the good of all Nigerians.

On Boko Haram insurgency

Boko Haram should understand that the Chibok girls in their possession must be safe. No matter what happens, if those girls are not safe, I don’t think Nigerians will ever forgive them. That is number one. Number two, let them find a better way to sit at a round-table with government and resolve this issue. What is their problem? What do they really want the government to do? If you say you want government to release your members, do not forget that they committed an offence against the state.

The condition that government must release those members before they release the girls is bad. What we are saying is not an issue of releasing these girls and your members being released. What Boko Haram should tell Nigerians, not the president, is ‘release our members and we will lay down arms.

We will forget about this issue of Boko Haram. As far as our members are released and you promise us that you are not going to arrest us, forgive us, we have realized that what we have done is wrong, some of us were misled and we have realized that we cannot continue; forgive our members, release them and do not arrest us and then try to help us by rehabilitating us so that we go back into the society and continue to contribute to the economic development of Nigeria.
